From washing clothes to doing dishes or even enjoying a nice, hot shower, your water heater is a vital component of your home plumbing system.
When it stops working, or its performance drops off, it may be time for repairs or even a replacement.
On average, a tank water will last about 12 years.
If yours is older, replacing the unit may be a more cost-effective option.
Keep in mind that lower priced water heaters are often the least efficient, making them more expensive to operate and maintain over time.

Many people understandably take the proper operation of their toilets for granted.
There are several unnoticeable circumstances that may arise with your toilet.
Toilets can run (causing large water bills), tank to bowls gaskets can leak, supplies can rupture and the seal from the bowl to the discharge pipe can separate without you realizing it.
Please watch for water on the floor around the bowl and stains on the ceiling directly below the toilet in question.
Always be suspicious of a loose toilet that moves and isn't securely fastened to the floor.

A sump pump is your best option for keeping your basement dry.
If you consistently have problems with water in your basement, a new or upgraded sump pump system is the answer you've been looking for to keep your home dry and increase its value.
A sump pump is an electric pump placed in a pit in the basement or lowest point of your home.
During heavy rainstorms, water that would otherwise floor into your basement is diverted into the pit with a pump.
When the water level reaches a certain point, the float valve on the sump pump activates and flushes the pump basically like a toilet, removing the water from your home so your basement doesn't flood.

Did you know that burst pipes tend to be one of the most common kinds of plumbing emergencies that we deal with?
The drain system in your home or office is exposed to debris, leaves and other elements leaving pipes clogged.
These obstructions can result in pipe cracks and leaks.
Even a minor pipe leak may not go away too easily.
Even if you can't see any water after you have found the initial leak, it doesn't mean you don't need a professional water pipe repair.
Water circulates through the house under pressure, and even a tiny leak can be like a miniature fountain.

Natural gas is a great and efficient way to power most of the appliances in your home.
It provides you with another option for energy besides oil and electricity.
The homeowner can run the heating system, cooking appliances, hot water system and even have a fireplace that is fueled by gas.
A gas system can be very useful and help things be more affordable BUT it can also be very dangerous if not installed or repaired properly.
Installing gas lines is one of our specialty areas at Metcalf Plumbing.

A garbage disposal used to be considered a luxury appliance in the kitchen, but now it's almost essential to use to get rid of scraps of food and clean up after meals.
It is easy to forget about your garbage disposal until it stops working.
Most garbage disposals are powered by a small electric motor which turns solid food into liquid (with the help of running water from the sink).
We repair in-sink, batch feed, and dishwasher garbage disposals.
Run cold water 5-10 seconds before you use the disposal and run it at least 15 seconds after you turn it off to flush the food through the disposal.

Mike was very helpful and transparent about what needed to be done, what could potentially be wrong (proving the worst and best case scenarios), and the cost associated with it. Jonathan was also very helpful and did his job well. He expressed his desire to take his time and make sure what he worked on was done correctly. I have used Metcalf Plumbing for years and will continue to use there services as long as I have a home. Thank you Metcalf for the great service!!

Les and Charles are amazing! Our boiler was failing and they replaced it in the same week. The installation is beautiful. They are knowledgeable, professional, and so organized! We are grateful to Les for organizing his team to repair our heat quickly and near the holidays. Metcalf is local, family owned, and scheduling was a breeze. They are now our go-to plumbing service!

Very professional. They wore booties and cleaned up the work area. They offered to come the same day but that actually didn't work for me, so they came a couple days later. They fixed some poor workmanship done by a prior plumber as well as taking care of the acute problem. Mike worked tirelessly until it was taken care of. I am very grateful. I would wholeheartedly recommend them and would not hesitate to use them again.

Mr. Metcalf and Johnathan showed up on time (early), listened to our concerns about our needs, and gave us an estimate on each aspect of the work. When we approved the work to be done, they got right to work. The work was done efficiently and cleanly. Everything was left as they found it. Highly recommended. Thanks.

I had a leak in my basement behind a bathroom wall that had really difficult access to the pipes. It was most likely going to need a hole punched in the basement shower but Michael and his coworker put in the extra effort to get to the pipes without doing that. They did an amazing job and saved me a bunch of money. I can't thank them enough. Professional, customer first, service. They've earned a loyal customer today. Thanks!

Customer service - exceptional!
We have been without a hot water heater for two weeks. Metcalf was able to come out and inspect the issue and replace a hot water in the same day. Danielle was a person who answered the phone gave me details on how to process works. Chris was the gentleman who came out and replaced the hot water heater. I gave birth five stars as well as Metcalf. Thank you, Metcalf.

If you need a plumber, you can feel good about calling Metcalf. They are honest, and they go the extra mile to solve your issues. We saw water on our kitchen ceiling under our bathroom. We were able to get a timely appointment and Michael spent a long time tracing the issue. The charge was very reasonable and the staff is friendly and helpful.

We've had to call Metcalf Plumbing twice now (once for water service line replacement and more recently for our leaking water heater). Both times, Metcalf has been easy to work with from start to finish. For both projects, Metcalf showed up on time, explained what was going on, our options, and price estimates. For our water line, Les, Lou, and Mike M. all came out. For our water heater, it was just Mike M. Both times, everyone was friendly, encouraged us to ask questions, polite, treated our home like it was their home, etc. We can't recommend them enough!
